Tip: Weekly Menu Planning

With just few hours each week for planning, shopping and cooking you (and your family) can acquire better long-term health, vitality and a more pleasurable life.

The best way to fight the temptation to eat unhealthful, low-nutrient foods is with two things: knowledge and great tasting meals.  If you have the knowledge, but don’t like what you are eating, you will ultimately fail.  The biggest obstacle we have to overcome in order to live healthier is time.

When you get hungry and no healthy foods are readily available, you most likely will resort to eating something unhealthy, as in convenience or fast food options.  After all, why is the Fast Food Industry a billion dollar business?  Because you don’t take the time to plan what you and your family will be eating.

This is why weekly menu planning to assure you have good-tasting, healthy foods available is critical.

Allow a few hours a week to the following:

  1. Planning your healthy meals and snacks for you and your family.

  2. Shopping for healthful ingredients and unprocessed foods to eat.

  3. Preparing and cooking healthy meals.

With just few hours each week you (and your family) can acquire long-term, better health, vitality and a more pleasurable life.

Remember, there are healthy habits and unhealthy habits and it seems the unhealthy habits are easier to establish and harder to give up.  The healthy habits, which seem more challenging at times to develop, will lead to a lifetime of better health.  Work to establish the menu-planning habit so it becomes a well-established habit.

  1. Lynn,

I love trying new recipes. And, since I eat (or like) just about anything, it’s easy to pick up healthy food and make them taste yummy. I have a Raw Foods Recipe Book that has date bars that I made once. It seemed like a lot of work at the time, but they were delicious (and healthy)!

Thanks for this reminder to shop for meal planning. It is so much easier to know what I’m going to eat… and when.

    1. Hi Gail,
Yes, I agree. This was as much a reminder for me too! When I have a plan it takes much less time to prepare meals and limit my shopping to exactly what I need for the week. Cuts down on the unnecessary spending too!
Please do share your healthy date recipe, it sounds yummy.
      Be well,
      Lynn
