Watermelon is an excellent source of vitamin C, vitamin A, the B vitamins, lycopene, thiamin, potassium and magnesium.

When purchasing a watermelon, select one that is ripe. To select a ripe watermelon, knock on the rind and if you hear a hollow sound, it is ready to eat. If you hear a solid thud, it is overripe.
